Rating Hugo by Loyle Carner

Hugo

10) Georgetown

Interesting pick for the second single for the album in my opinion. I like his flow, but I am not a fan of the instrumental, it gets repetitive.

9) Blood on my Nikes

I like the context of this song as it discusses the knife crime epidemic within the UK however, as a song it will have to grow on me.

8) Speed of plight

Good song, Loyle Carner definitely feels in his element as it’s clear to hear however, this is a reoccurring theme throughout the album so would have been nice to hear him step out of his comfort zone more.

7) Nobody knows

The last single for the album, very similar vibes to isle of Arran which is a banger. It’s not quite as good but still amazing.

6) HGU

Great song to close the album, love the off-beat drums throughout the song and the passion in the vocals. Drumming was on point in this album.

5) A lasting place

Such a vibe! Would be higher on my list if the audio clip was took out the song to be honest. Only downside of the album I would say is there are too many audio clips.

4) Polyfilla

This song makes you want to bounce your head to the beat. Once again, the bouncy sound of the piano just outs this song to that next level.

3) Plastic

Such a groovy song. Hats off to the drummer and bassist doing wonders for this song. I like the message of the song which is saying get lost to plastic or ‘fake’ people.

2) Hate

The lead single of the album did not disappoint. Love the drums creating that rock rap similarly to no CD which is in my top 3 Loyle Carner songs.

1) Homertown

My personal favourite from the album. Love the vibe and the pianist smashed it out the park with this one. Great tune for a late-night walk.
